I’m nominating a young beautiful soul to the Organ Donor Hall of Fame: my Donor Hero, Riley Scott Pertgen.

November 14. 2004 – August 21, 2025

I will be forever grateful to Riley and his family. I didn’t have the opportunity to meet Riley so his parents, Bonnie and Tim, shared the following about him.

“Riley was a cherished son and friend to many. He possessed an innate ability to quickly form friendships, regardless of his surroundings. Throughout his life, he experienced the joys of first love, the pain of heartbreak, the independence of living on his own, and the fulfillment of pet parenthood.

Despite facing challenges that are common among children, Riley remained resilient and determined. He found happiness in his job and was diligently working towards becoming an EMT, driven by his desire to help others.

It was during his time in the ICU that our family discovered Riley made the personal decision to become an organ donor when he obtained his driver’s license. Through that decision,  Riley chose to extend his compassion and help individuals he would never meet.

His selfless act of kindness has left an indelible mark on many lives, and he will forever be remembered for his unwavering dedication to helping those in need.”
