Jacob “Jake” Campbell
Jacob Rian “Jake” Campbell was born May 25, 2007, to Holly and Andy Campbell and big brother Ben. For 12 weeks, his family was blessed by his beautiful smile and the joy he brought into their lives.
On August 13, 2007, Jake stopped breathing in his bassinet. Although doctors were able to restore his heartbeat, he had suffered irreversible brain damage. Knowing Jake would not survive, his parents asked about organ donation so that his life could continue by helping others.
August 16th, Jake became an Organ Donor SuperHero. His heart was transplanted into a two-week-old baby boy named Beckham, and Jake also donated his corneas.
Jake’s family connected with Beckham’s family after learning he received Jake’s heart. In the summer of 2010, they met Beckham and his family at the Transplant Games of America. Since then, the Campbell’s have had the incredible opportunity of watching Beckham grow and thrive with Jake’s heart.
The following year, Jake was honored with a floragraph on the 2011 Donate Life Rose Parade Float, sharing his story with millions of people.
Nearly two decades later, the impact of Jake’s Gift of Life continues. Through Beckham, the recipients of his corneas, and the family who continues to speak his name, Jake’s legacy lives on.
Jake’s life mattered, his gifts mattered and, we will continue to honor him.
