Today marks a remarkable milestone—Brenda E. Cortez’s 20th Donorversary of giving the gift of life. Though she is not my physical kidney donor, organ donation brought us together, and my life has been forever changed because of it.

Brenda is a true champion of organ donation awareness. She is the creator of H.O.W.L. the Owl which is an acronym for, “Help Others With Love.” Through her Howl the Owl®️ book series, she has educated and inspired countless individuals about the importance of kindness, giving, and our transplant community. She is also the visionary behind the Because of Organ Donation book series, amplifying the voices of those whose lives have been transformed by this incredible gift. With book #3 set to release in April 2025, we are excited to support Brenda and the courageous authors who have shared their stories—not only in this upcoming book but in the first two volumes as well.

Her advocacy has touched so many lives, bringing hope, education, and awareness to communities far and wide. Who could have imagined that a selfless act—donating a kidney to another mom 20 years ago—would set Brenda on a path to achieving so much and making such a lasting impact?

Brenda, thank you for your unwavering dedication, for the love and awareness you continue to spread, for helping us share our stories, and for the difference you make in the world, others lives, and in my life. We can’t wait to see what’s next in this incredible journey for you.
